YOUR EARLY TWENTIES ARE AWKWARD AF
Yup, to be very blunt, your early 20’s are awkward AF.
In today’s society, once you have graduated from university and start working a 9-5, you’re considered an adult. Key word- considered. However, I haven’t exactly felt that way all the time! Let’s face it- Adulting is hard (yes, that is a word that my generation has coined and perfected through many memes). Here are some of the things I struggle with as someone in my early twenties, but IT IS OK! It is totally normal to feel this way and I can promise you things do get better (ish)😉.
Your first “adult” job. You have this new thing called commuting. No one prepared you for the “opportunities" that might happen an hour away from where you live and you must do the commute in order to take full advantage of your “opportunities".
Making new friends is suddenly hard. . . and maintaining old friendships gets even harder. #NoNewFriends is real thing. This is what I definitely struggled with the most. As my life progressed both professionally and personally, I found it challenging to meet others doing the same thing. Half of your friends leave town for university and then the other half get married and start having babies. And then there are the friends where your paths are just going separate ways.
You’re an adult but you still don’t have any money 🙃 surprise! Haha. You know that lifestyle that your parents provided and made look easy? Ya well, it’s hard. And expensive. So very expensive. Also DISHES.
I find it funny that when I “officially” aged out of my teenage self, my now 20-something self figured I would magically get clear, perfect skin. FUN FACT: adult acne is a real thing and it’s brutal.
You probably think that as soon as you leave high school people grow up and get tired of living the drama. Drama doesn't end in high school, it will most likely always be there in some shape or form. Hence the swift division of ‘Old’ friends and ‘New’ friends post high school.
DIET: before your 20’s this word meant nothing to you. Metabolism slows down and you have to start giving a crap about the crap you put in your body. (Kraft Dinner, McDonald’s). You learn to do this new thing called meal prep, which is so time consuming!
They say that in your 30’s things get better. Let me know for those of you that have made it through your 20’s and are living it up big in your 30’s! (; Thank you for reading XO.
